2012 Ownshelf - see what your friends are reading and sharing

Ownshelf is a new service that lets people store and share ebooks online. It's something like Dropbox for ebooks combined with Facebook. You can upload your ebooks to your account and show your bookshelf to friends. And you can browse friends’ shelves to find out what books they like. The service also allows to borrow and loan ebooks. Of course, the first idea that comes to mind is that Ownshelf risks to turn into an illegal peer-to-peer downloading service for copyrighted e-books. But the developers have invented kind of copyright-protection scheme: users have to sign up for it with their real names and can only share books with their real friends via Facebook.

The service also wants to partner with authors to host shelves of books that they would like to distribute to their fans. They hope that one day authors might even choose this platform to launch and promote new books.
