Booksonic vs audiobookshelf

September 05, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin
Booksonic and Audiobookshelf are both eBook oganizers, focused on storing and listening audiobooks. They work as local servers with web interface and player for streaming content. The player supports bookmarks and remembers the last place from which to continue playback. They also support compatible mobile apps for listening and downloading audiobooks. The web interface allows cataloging of the library with bookshelves, covers and metadata

But Booksonic (a fork of the old Subsonic project) - focuses exclusively on audiobooks and has a simpler (old-fashioned) interface without unnecessary features. It supports work with third-party clients for Subsonic. It's easy to install and has minimalistic hardware requirements.

Audiobookshelf is a program not only for audiobooks, but also for any e-books (epub, pdf). It has a more modern interface and its own mobile apps for Android and iOS. Audiobookshelf has advanced library organization features (with series, progress, chapters), multi-user access with profiles, convenient search and filter system. Its installation is easy for those who has experience working with Docker containers.
