FBReader vs Koreader

September 26, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin
FBReader and Koreader are both free ebook reading apps that support multiple formats (epub, fb2, mobi, pdf and others). They allow to customize fonts, text size and color, reading area background, add bookmarks and notes, contain built-in dictionaries and a translator.

However, FBReader is a cross-platform app, available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. It has a simpler and more user-friendly interface, ideal for reading text/fiction books. FBReader emphasizes stability, speed and minimalism, allows to sync your library between devices and integrates with online book catalogs. For mobile platforms FBReader also provides paid apps featuring text-to-speech and advanced options for reading PDFs and comics.

Koreader is an e-reader for e-Ink devices (Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook). It is open source and completely free. Unlike built-in e-readers, it offers an advanced PDF viewer, rich set of text and PDF display settings, plugins for customization, built-in annotation tools and note export. Theoretically, it can be also installed on Android devices and desktop computers, but this requires advanced technical knowledge.
