Foxit Reader vs Microsoft Edge

Last updated: July 26, 2023
Foxit Reader and Microsoft Edge are two distinct software applications designed for handling PDF (Portable Document Format) files, and they have significant differences in their features and capabilities.

Firstly, Foxit Reader is a dedicated PDF reader developed by Foxit Software. It is renowned for its lightweight nature and fast performance. Foxit Reader provides a comprehensive set of tools for viewing, editing, and annotating PDF documents. Users can easily highlight text, add comments, draw shapes, and even fill out interactive forms. Additionally, it offers features like PDF conversion, merging, and splitting, making it a versatile tool for working with PDF files. In contrast, Microsoft Edge includes a built-in PDF viewer as part of its web browser. While it allows basic viewing and scrolling through PDFs, it lacks the more advanced annotation and editing capabilities offered by Foxit Reader. As a result, users who require extensive PDF manipulation and collaboration may find Foxit Reader to be the more suitable choice.

Secondly, Foxit Reader offers a wealth of customization options and preferences. Users can personalize the reading experience by adjusting the interface, changing view modes, and selecting different themes. It also supports various plugins and extensions, allowing users to extend its functionality further. On the other hand, Microsoft Edge's PDF viewer has limited customization options, as it is primarily designed as a simple and integrated solution within the browser. While this integration is convenient for quick PDF viewing, users seeking a more tailored experience may prefer the flexibility offered by Foxit Reader.

2023. Microsoft Edge now allows to read EPUB files

Microsoft appears to have reintroduced support for ePub readers in the latest version of Microsoft Edge Canary. In 2019, this feature was discontinued, but it now seems to have made a quiet return. Users who wish to access the ePub format will need to follow a few simple steps. First, ensure that the browser is closed before proceeding. Then, open Microsoft Edge, right-click, and select "Properties." In the Target field, scroll to the end, add a space, and then type (or copy/paste) the following: –enable-features=msEdgeEpubReaderEnabled. Click "Apply" and then "OK." Once these steps are completed, the ePub format will be successfully enabled on Microsoft Edge Canary.
