ONYX BOOX Leaf

The ONYX BOOX Leaf is an e-book E reader with an enlarged screen and advanced technical characteristics. Thanks to the enlarged screen, this model allows you to combine reading fiction and technical literature. Its high-performance hardware platform ensures a convenient speed of the device even with the most complex documents. The model is based on the Android, which allows you to install and use various third-party apps and significantly expands the capabilities of the device. A built-in Wi-Fi module allows you to use various network services, and Bluetooth allows you to connect external devices. The book is made in a thin compact case, and its screen is covered with Asahi protective glass.
Kobo Libra and ONYX BOOX Leaf both are equipped with 7-inch E Ink Carta displays, which is rather like reading the Hitchhiker’s Guide itself, minus the psychedelic covers. They glow softly in the dark thanks to adjustable front lights (presumably to avoid waking slumbering Vogons) and both have physical buttons because the universe, in its infinite wisdom, understands that tapping a screen with jam-covered fingers is an affront to civilized reading. They’re multilingual in the ways of EPUB and PDF and if you’re looking to read your way through the improbable odds of the universe, either would do nicely.

Now, Kobo Libra is something of a homebody—simple, elegant and decidedly Canadian, much like an apologetic cup of maple-syrup-flavored tea. It doesn’t bother with third-party apps or the modern distraction of cat videos. Instead, it links arms with your local library via OverDrive and whispers, “Read, don’t scroll.” It is for the reader who doesn’t want to fiddle, hack or shout at Wi-Fi settings. It’s calm, it’s stable and it believes Kobo store is quite enough thank you very much.

Meanwhile, ONYX BOOX Leaf is the mad scientist in the lab coat, frantically flipping through android blueprints while sipping digital espresso. It hails from China, runs full Android and comes packed with the kind of specs that suggest it might launch itself into low orbit if prodded improperly. It caters to the adventurer—someone who needs Kindle, Google Books, Pocket and a quick game of chess with an AI on the side. Some variants even accept stylus input, which means you can draw a portrait of Zaphod Beeblebrox mid-chapter, should the mood strike.
