Kobo Plus vs Storytel
October 31, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin
Kobo Plus and Storytel are both ebook subscription services that provide unlimited access to books for a flat monthly fee. Both offer a catalog of ebooks and audiobooks, which can be read/listened offline via mobile apps. You can cancel your subscription at any time (it's not necessary to pay for full year). Both services operate internationally and provide content on different languages.
But Kobo Plus has a significantly larger catalog - over 1.5 million ebooks and over 150,000 audiobooks - but its selection of popular content may be smaller than Storytel's. Kobo offers more flexible pricing - you can choose a cheaper plan that allows "reading only" or "listening only." Also there is a limit on offline access: you can have up to 15 books downloaded offline to your device for 30 days. Naturally, this service is suitable for those who already use Kobo devices (e-readers) or Kobo app with ecosystem integration.
Storytel offers access to "800,000+ stories in 40 languages." The service focuses primarily on audiobooks and also offers a hybrid format: you can start reading a book yourself and then switch to the audiobook from where you left off. Then you can return to reading on any device (your progress is synced). The platform also features a "Kids Mode" specifically for safe access by children.
