Tolino Epos vs Tolino Vision

Last updated: July 20, 2023
As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Tolino Epos and Tolino Vision are two e-book readers manufactured by the German e-reader alliance Tolino. While both devices offer a high-quality reading experience, they have some key differences in their features and specifications.

1. Display Size and Resolution: One of the primary differences between Tolino Epos and Tolino Vision lies in their display size and resolution. Tolino Epos features a larger 7.8-inch E Ink Carta HD display, offering more screen real estate for reading and viewing content. This larger screen size makes it particularly appealing for users who prefer a more immersive reading experience, especially when reading larger-format documents or graphic-heavy content. On the other hand, Tolino Vision has a 6-inch E Ink Carta display, which is still a standard size for most e-book readers. While it provides a good reading experience, the smaller screen may not be as suitable for users who prefer larger text or graphics.

2. Front Lighting and Design: Another significant difference is in the front lighting and design of the two devices. Both Tolino Epos and Tolino Vision come with front lighting, allowing users to read in various lighting conditions. However, the design of the front lighting may differ. Tolino Epos may have more evenly distributed lighting across its larger display, providing a more comfortable reading experience, especially in low-light environments. In contrast, Tolino Vision also offers front lighting, but the distribution and adjustability of the lighting might vary based on the model.

3. Weight and Portability: Tolino Epos and Tolino Vision also differ in their weight and portability. Due to its larger screen size, Tolino Epos is generally heavier than Tolino Vision. While Tolino Vision is designed to be lightweight and compact, making it easier to hold for extended reading sessions, Tolino Epos may feel slightly bulkier. Users who prioritize portability and one-handed reading may find Tolino Vision more appealing, whereas those who value a larger display and are willing to carry a slightly heavier device may prefer Tolino Epos.

2016. E-Reader Tolino Vision 4HD is available

Tolino has unveiled the Tolino Vision 4HD, a new e-reader perfect for the holiday season. This remarkable model, available at mytolino.de/tolino-vision-4hd/ebook-reader/, sets new standards with its impressive enhancements. It boasts a six-inch e-ink Carta display, offering a resolution of 1448 x 1072 and 300 PPI. The touchscreen interface seamlessly blends with the bezel, making interaction easier compared to devices with a sunken bezel. Moreover, the device is waterproof, allowing you to enjoy your favorite e-books anywhere without worry. Notably, this e-reader introduces a unique feature to its front-lit display called "smart light." This innovative technology automatically adjusts from cool light in the morning to warm light in the evening, similar to Kobo's Aura One and its blue light filtering system.

2014. Waterproof Tolino Vision 2 is available

Tolino Alliance, based in Germany, has introduced the Tolino Vision 2, a new waterproof e-reader with a design similar to its predecessor. One notable difference is its waterproof feature, resembling devices like the Kobo H2O and Pocketbook Aqua. The Tolino Vision 2 also introduces a unique functionality called Tap2Flip, transforming the entire back of the device into a pressure-sensitive touchscreen for easy page-turning in eBooks. Equipped with the latest e-Paper innovation, e Ink Carta, the Tolino Vision 2 boasts the same screen technology as the Kindle Paperwhite 2 and Kobo Aura H2O. It is important to note that although marketed as a waterproof e-reader, it is more accurately described as splash-resistant and may not withstand complete submersion in water, primarily due to the absence of a waterproof protective flap for the bottom Micro USB port.
