Here are the latest news about Reedsy:

2023. Reedsy Marketplace adds Projects section for book collaboration

The Reedsy Marketplace has gone through a rather magnificent transformation, rather like a spaceship that suddenly realizes it's actually a supremely organized office. Beneath its sleek new exterior, a host of behind-the-scenes improvements hum quietly, making the entire experience feel as friendly and manageable as a well-trained towel. If you’re in the throes of working with a Reedsy professional—whether by flinging requests, haggling over offers, or hatching a book together—rejoice! You can now manage all these thrilling exchanges under the effortlessly labeled Projects tab. The whole system has been neatly reassembled to handle multiple projects without so much as a murmur, ensuring you can track everything—requests, collaborations, payments, and file sharing—with nary a bead of perspiration. To uncover every secret of your collaborations, simply click the cunning little arrow on the Manage button, which is almost as satisfying as opening a bag of your favorite snack. File sharing has reached new heights of simplicity, too: now you can toss files into messages with a graceful drag-and-drop flourish. And when you need to revisit your shared treasures, you’ll find every file from your exchanges snuggled up on your Files page, waiting patiently to be rediscovered.

2023. Reedsy adds cats to its Writing App

It is a truth universally acknowledged – or at least whispered among the scattered tea mugs of literary history – that the likes of Stephen King, Doris Lessing, Jorge Luis Borges, Alice Walker, and even the ever-so-clever Mark Twain drew their musings from a singularly profound source: cats. Yes, cats, those enigmatic furballs of inspiration, whose only real competition for universal domination is probably gravity. Now, thanks to the marvelously quirky minds behind the Reedsy Book Editor, aspiring scribes can bask in the same feline wisdom with the whimsical "Reedsy Cats" feature. Simply toggle CAT mode, and voila! A digital cat saunters into your workspace, lounging, licking, and purring with a studied indifference that only a true muse could master, as you chip away at your daily word count goals. Because nothing quite says “productive genius” like being outpaced by a virtual cat’s napping schedule.

2019. Reedsy launches Goodreads alternative for indie authors

Reedsy, in its infinite improbability, has conjured up a dazzlingly clever contraption called Discovery, a marketing marvel so precisely tailored for independent authors that it might as well come with its own towel. Imagine a universe where your book isn’t just lost among the teeming cosmos of unread stories, but instead is lovingly plucked by a legion of reviewers and hurled with precision at thousands of potential readers. Utilizing the arcane sorcery of machine-learning algorithms (probably powered by very small, thoughtful dolphins), Discovery partners with Reedsy’s ever-vibrant community to make sure your magnum opus doesn’t just sit sulking in the corner. Think Goodreads, but sleeker, shinier, and mercifully less bewildering. Sign up, and voilà! Your book is presented to a crack team of discerning reviewers who pick their next read with all the care of Vogon poets deciding on their next victims. Come launch day, your book will take its place in the spotlight, dazzling registered readers who can fawn over its sample chapter, applaud your impeccable cover design, peruse reviews, upvote it with gusto, and—most importantly—buy it, presumably without the intervention of hyperspace bypasses.

2016. Reedsy launched Google Docs for books

Reedsy, the marketplace for editors, cover designers and more, has introduced a book editor designed to seamlessly collaborate with your editors and produce a final manuscript. While this isn’t the first book editor, Reedsy’s book editor focuses on collaboration. It may not be as robust as Scrivener or Ulysses, but that’s not the primary goal. You can draft your manuscript in Scrivener and then complete the editing process in Reedsy. Think of this book editor as a Google Docs for books. It allows you to write and edit in your browser with everything saved in real-time. Multiple people can edit simultaneously, leave comments and track changes. It eliminates the cumbersome back-and-forth process associated with Word documents and confusing file names.

2014. Self-publishing startup Reedsy wants to compete big publishing houses

Self-publishing startup Reedsy has officially launched. It assists authors in collaborating with expert editors, book designers, marketers and translators to elevate their books to the next level. Reedsy will only engage with certified, industry-experienced freelancers, ensuring authors can find the best collaborators for their projects. Freelancers invited to the beta can register and create polished profile pages. They can showcase the books they’ve worked on, their professional affiliations and discuss the types of projects they’re interested in. Reedsy will be the first curated marketplace of its kind for publishing freelancers. Authors will be able to use Reedsy as a single platform to manage every stage of the publishing process. Reedsy is also developing a specialized eBook editor to facilitate smoother author-editor collaboration.

This just sounds like another front for paying a Vanity publishing company to do the same things that you can have for less from Freelancers in the street.

Their business method does not seem friendly for self publishing authors.

This definitely doesn't make any sense to me.

This is a reply to Eddie's review from 2015. I use Reedsy often and am looking for alternatives to try something new with my novel's platform(s). Though this website may seem under detailed, they give a fine definition of Reedsy itself. In your review, you said, "This just sounds like another front for paying a Vanity publishing company to do the same things that you can have for less from Freelancers in the street." Reedsy is a free site that even offers to provide editing help from professionals. If I were them, I would put a price tag on their services and call it a day. But they still provide a safe and reliable platform for self-publishing authors everywhere. Thank you, and this is just my opinion.
