2024. New Kindle Scribe includes AI-powered notebook

The all-new Kindle Scribe 2024 merges all the advantages of Kindle with a robust note-taking gadget. It will feature mostly the same software interface existing Scribe users are familiar with but with a few notable differences. The new integrated AI-powered notebook (English-only) enables you to quickly summarize pages and notes into precise bullet points in a handwritten-style font that can be shared from the notebook section. You can also enhance your notes in a handwritten-style font so they’re clear while preserving the appearance and feel of handwriting. You can jot your thoughts directly into the book when inspiration strikes. Your note becomes part of the page and the book’s text dynamically adjusts around it—whether you increase the font size, modify the font style, or alter the book layout, the note remains visible precisely where you want it, so you never lose any meaning or context. The new stylus feels like a real pen and the new soft-tip eraser feels just like a pencil.

2024. New PocketBook Color Note features 10-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 screen

PocketBook has released new e-note device PocketBook Color Note with 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 display priced at $599. It uses the Mobius display technology that uses a plastic-based thin film transistor (TFT) - it's an older E Ink display technology that is rarely in use now even though it has its own advantages. Also it has reduced screen resolution. It stands at 227 PPI for B/W displays and drops down to a quite dismal 76 PPI when viewing color content (most color e-notes featuring Kaleido 3 come with 300 PPI B/W and 150 PPI for color). The new device includes mono speaker, an integrated mic and display rotation sensor. It supports text-to-speech and can recognize 6 audiobook formats and 24 e-books, comics and manga formats. It also comes with a slightly less capable 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU compared to the 2.3 GHz octa-core CPU that renders service in the InkPad Eo and has 4000 mAh battery.

2023. Calibre 7.0 adds innovative notes feature, audio EPUB support

Kovid Goyal, the mastermind behind the wildly ingenious Calibre, has dropped Calibre 7.0 into the digital ether—a new stable version of the much-beloved, cross-platform, open-source e-book organizer that has kept readers and their libraries in delightfully structured chaos. In this spectacularly brainy update, users now have the thoroughly useful ability to attach notes festooned with links, images, and whimsically formatted text to authors, series, publishers, and tags. But wait, there’s more! Calibre 7.0 boldly steps into the sonic unknown with "Audio EPUB" books, where text is read aloud by recorded voices—though Linux users may encounter a small, patent-induced hiccup on that front. And, for a finale that would make even the most bureaucratically inclined Vogon swoon, the update finally answers long-standing pleas by allowing "data" files to tag along with your books, managed with a simple, glorious right-click. Revolution, thy name is Calibre 7.0.

2022. Zotero 6 adds new Note Editor with annotations

The new version of reference management software Zotero 6 includes built-in PDF reader with a tabbed interface, which allows users to mark up PDFs with highlights, notes and image annotations. Additionally, users can clean up metadata for items while viewing their PDFs and add annotations to Zotero notes with automatic citations using a new, powerful note editor. Users can cite other items directly in their notes using Zotero’s familiar citation dialog and insert notes into Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs documents with active Zotero citations for automatically generating bibliographies. Finally, users can export notes to external Markdown editors with links back to Zotero items and PDFs. These new features make it easier than ever for researchers to manage their references, notes and citations all in one place.

The new timeline tool allows quickly navigate inside book. Moreover, Alfareader now provides tools to save and manage knowledge-blocks. 2019. Mendeley has added note-taking feature

Mendeley has recently introduced a new feature called Mendeley Notebook, which serves as a note-taking tool. This tool provides a working space where users can keep their thoughts in one place, making it easy to collect highlights from multiple PDFs and add their own comments. You can add highlights from as many PDFs as you want to your Notebook. Researchers have expressed their desire to have highlights and annotations associated with the PDF, but since they often read multiple PDFs simultaneously, they wanted a way to consolidate their notes in one place. With Mendeley Notebook, users can now achieve this goal.
