2023. Book Collector adds 3 completely new data fields and 4 new sync fields



The new version of Book Collector (v23) has added 3 completely new data fields and 4 new cloud-sync fields. The new fields (Signed By, Dust Jacket and Number Line) were added to all of our book database solutions (mobile, web and desktop). Also, you can now finally sync these existing Book Collector fields through the CLZ Cloud to the CLZ Books mobile app (Cover Artist, Foreword Author, Ghostwriter and Box Set). The similar updates have also been released for the CLZ Books mobile apps and Book Connect web-based software so all 7 fields now nicely sync between all of them.


2022. Libraries can now share thoughts and recommendations with Libby



Overdrive's Libby has recently introduced an exciting new feature that allows libraries to enhance reader engagement through sharing thoughts, quotes, trivia, and recommendations. Known as Shelf Talkers, this feature provides each library with a dedicated space within the Libby app to exhibit their curatorial expertise and knowledge by communicating personal notes directly to patrons. Shelf Talkers in Libby enable librarians to connect with readers by suggesting titles, offering intriguing insights about a book or author, showcasing the curators' personalities, and adding a unique library-specific touch to their Libby collection. Users can access shelf talkers on a title's details page in Libby, and librarians have the ability to schedule them for future publication, ensuring they remain fresh and timely. The current available types of shelf talkers include recommendations (featuring librarian and staff recommendations), favorite quotes (highlighting notable quotes from a title), trivia (providing interesting facts about a title or author), and thoughts (sharing timely updates such as readalikes, upcoming movie adaptations, release dates for the next book in a series, or details about upcoming book club meetings or author visits at the library).


2020. Audible updated library management on iOS



Audiobook service Audible has introduced changes to their library system within the iOS app. Users now have the ability to arrange their audiobooks by genre or create collections. If you have multiple audiobooks in progress, you can conveniently locate titles based on their listening status. The new "Titles" feature enables you to filter your titles as started, not-started, or finished. Additionally, titles can be sorted by genres, automatically organizing books for those who prefer an effortless approach. To further customize your organization, you can create your own folders or collections with unique names and add titles to them. The newly introduced Favorites section provides easy access to your most frequently listened titles, allowing you to enjoy them repeatedly.


2015. LibraryThing unveiles an online tool for small libraries



LibraryThing, the online personal library organizer, has introduced TinyCat, a robust and user-friendly online catalog designed specifically for small libraries with fewer than 20,000 titles. For nearly a decade, these modest libraries such as churches, synagogues, small schools, community centers, and academic departments have utilized LibraryThing to organize their collections, and now they can continue to do so with TinyCat. This new platform offers a cleaner interface that prioritizes helping library patrons easily locate and explore books within their library. The recent rollout of several new features by LibraryThing developers has facilitated the development of TinyCat, including Barcode Support, Circulation, Advanced Search, and the latest addition, MARC Import. TinyCat incorporates the most valuable and practical enhancements available from LibraryThing, surpassing the offerings of many larger library catalogs.


2014. Alfa Ebooks Manager 5 adds Web Server, Audio Palyer, LoC integration



Alfa.NetSoft has released the new version of the popular ebook library organizer Alfa Ebooks Manager 5. The main new feature is OPDS Web Server that allows to browse, search, view and download your books via LAN or Wi-Fi from any computer or mobile device. You can use a browser or one of ereading apps that support OPDS standard. Besides, the program now supports linking multiple files per book, editing metadata for PDF, EPUB, FB2, MOBI, AZW ebooks. Audiobook lovers will be pleased to see inbuilt audioplayer and 3D audiobook models. Largest US book library Library of Congress now can be used to update book data. The book card in Alfa now contains 3 fields dedicated to LoC. 2014. Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 promises better DRM, layout support



Adobe has recently unveiled the latest iteration of its library organization software, Adobe Digital Editions 3.0, catering to both Windows and Mac users. The prominent highlight of this release is the introduction of an upgraded DRM Scheme. According to Adobe, this new scheme has undergone rigorous reinforcement to bolster its security measures, thwarting any unauthorized access to files protected by Digital Rights Management. Version 3.0 also brings notable enhancements to the search functionality when sifting through PDF files, enabling users to conduct targeted searches within specific text ranges. Additionally, the update incorporates improved support for vertical layout and orientation by incorporating limited compatibility with the "epub-text-orientation" CSS property. Adobe Digital Editions now grants access to four out of the property's six values: mixed, upright, sideways-right, and sideways. Moreover, it now accurately aligns special characters that serve as both full- and half-width representations. Users can readily obtain Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 as a freely available download for both Windows and Mac platforms. To utilize the software as a supported device for reading protected eBook files, users must possess an Adobe ID, which is necessary for signing in and authorizing their computer.


2013. Calibre 1.0 is available for download



WoW! Seven years after it was first released, the free ebook management software Calibre has reached version 1.0. According to the author (Kovid Goyal), lots of new features have been added to the library organizer in this new version — a grid view of book covers, a new faster database backend, the ability to convert Microsoft Word files, tools to make changes to ebooks without needing to do a full conversion, full support for font embedding and subsetting,  an easy to use tool to edit the Table of Contents in ebooks, rewritten PDF Output engine, new tool "Polish books" that allows you to perform various automated cleanup actions on ebooks.


2010. Alfa Ebooks Manager 1.8 adds LRF, FB2, EPUB support, new beautiful e-library views



The developers of Alfa Ebooks Manager call their new software version "The new generation of ebook management software". They have implemented a lot of new features and dramatically improved the software performance.
